Sam Jones, Sharp Shooter
After photographing several presidents and first ladies, what's one more? A lot, it turns out—when the subject is Michelle Obama. Photographer Sam Jones photographed Mrs. Obama for the first Children's Health cover in the Map Room of the White House, along with some of the schoolchildren who helped create the White House vegetable garden. "She has the glow of a person loving her life," says Jones, a father of three who swears his assessment had nothing to do with the M&M's the White House sent his daughters. "She definitely knows how to make kids feel important," he says. "Seeing that, she must be a great mother."

Mehmet Oz, M.D., Doctor On Call
You probably know him as America's television doc (five years as a regular on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and now with his own, The Dr. Oz Show). Or maybe you know him as the best-selling author of the You: The Owner's Manual series of books. His day job is heart surgeon; his after-work passion is HealthCorps, a program he founded to help teenagers eat smarter and live healthier lives. But to his four kids, Oz is Dad. "Just like you copied your parents in ways you sometimes don't want to admit, your kids inevitably model your choices," Oz says. "Set a thoughtful example and see how small improvements can make a big difference for the whole family." Start with his five favorite health tips for parents in "Paging Dr. Oz," on page 37.

Jon Scieszka, Reading Ambassador
He's an award-winning author who writes about stinky cheese and talking trucks—and he's proud of it. "It is my diplomatic mission to be goofy," Jon Scieszka says of his recent appointment as first U. S. National Ambassador of Young People's Literature. But make no mistake; Scieszka takes his duty to young readers seriously. "Reading is a skill for life," says the former elementary school teacher and father of two. "Teaching made me want to reach every kid and let each one know he could be a reader." Look on the site for his advice on "How to Raise a Reader." Scieszka is the author of such children's classics as The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales. His newest book, Robot Zot!, hits bookstores in October.

Bess Yoham, Design Guru
"Creating an identity for this magazine was such a rewarding feeling," says Bess Yoham, who oversaw the design for the debut issue of Children's Health. "This was the first magazine launch I could call my own." Yoham's real prize, however, is at home: She has a 4-year-old son and her second child is due in January. Did being pregnant while designing this magazine affect her work? "I could really relate to the subject matter. As a working mom, it's a challenge to juggle all the things necessary to create a healthy environment," she says. "Working on this magazine helped to inform me." Yoham has also contributed to Domino, InStyle, Life, O: The Oprah Magazine, and People.
